Multi cultural festival in Tavistock in September/October 2025 - Can you help?
Hello, My name is Abbie Gardiner and I'm Community Liason for a project developing a multi-cultural festival in Tavistock and West Devon in September/October this year. Those involved include Devon Migration and Resettlement Team, West Devon Community Voluntary Services, Tavistock Library, Tavistock Youth Cafe, Wren Music, West Devon Art Workshops, Tavi Stand Up To Racism and many more! We hope to create an event that promotes and celebrates diversity and challenges anti-immigrant misinformation. Our goal is to strengthen the community through building connections, sharing knowledge and experiences and supporting integration. We are reaching out to schools, parishes, community organisations, families and individuals to invite them to support these goals and be part of the festival in whatever way they are able. We’d like the festival to include lots of offerings and events over this year - projects, workshops, performances and stalls with themes around food and cooking, music, art, dance, poetry, storytelling, history and information sharing. Some of these events might run over a number of weeks, some might take place as part of other events in the town and others might be during a specific festival day. Interested people can help and support by attending planning meetings and participating in working groups that are building the event together. They can also help by promoting the themes of celebrating diversity and multi-cultural communities through adapting the types of planned talks, plays and other events taking place in local village halls and community groups. We’d love for your community to benefit from events local to them that might link into this theme! If you are aware of anyone in or connected to your organisation that could help us to achieve these goals or would be interested in getting involved, we ask you to let them know about this initiative as soon as possible and encourage them to get in touch. We are particularly keen to work with people and organisations that can represent the views of migrant and ethnic minority populations in West Devon so that the festival is truly representative of the diversity of our community and meaningful and impactful for everyone. We are a small and friendly team, committed to supporting our local community. If you’d like to chat about possible ways forward in your community, we encourage you to get in touch. You can telephone, email or check out our Facebook page and send us a message. We look forward to hearing from you.
